has been to re-create a traditional Antique Shop as we remember them 30 years ago. At that time this area of East Lancashire
was a haven of antique treasures, with shops and centres peppering the golden miles through Ramsbottom, Edenfield and Haslingden,
and on up to Accrington and beyond. An absolute must on the bi-annual itinery of serious overseas dealers and collectors
- but alas, no more.
Which is a pity! To be considered as a genuine antique an object has to be 100 years old, which means that exactly
a century ago Britain was thriving under the Edwardian era. And why was that so special? Because
it was the most revolutionary social period in our history, known as the Belle Epoque. The first 25 years
of the 20th century saw non stop change, from arts and crafts - art nouveau, art deco, and modernism. Things which are
now the antiques of today and eagerly copied by Ikea and many other leading furniture outlets.
