Victorian Period 1837 to 1901
Most of the period architecture forming the nucleus of a British town centre today, dates back to the 19th century.  The latter half of that century, the Victorian period, was one of unprecedented change and progress, thanks largely to a new rich middle class Britain.  This new found affluence and status was reflected in the type of housing, and the style in which these homes were furnished.  Thanks to this period of prosperity, houses and furniture were constructed to a high standard, and in today's climate of rising manufacturing costs, make a sound investment.

The Industrial Revolution brought a mass migration of agricultural labour to the towns and cities.  Improved pay and conditions through progressive reforms offered better prospects in the cotton mills, coal mines, potteries and iron foundries.  Britain's empire brought food from abroad, and the railway system made transportation of goods much faster.
