LOUIS XVI WRITING DESK

Constructed from solid oak this French mid 19th century desk has lockable drawers to the pedestals for which the key is present.  The superstructure has small drawers flanking a central pigeonhole, with a carved gallery.  Smaller versions of these desks (bonheur du jour's or Bureu de dame) were made for a ladies use, and their construction could be very elegant

WILLIAM AND MARY WALNUT BUREAU

A Victorian revival walnut veneered bureau on a solid mahogany base.  Designed with a Chippendale style lavish interior, including serpentine shaped veneered drawers with satinwood stringing, secret compartments and a sliding well.  Two graduated drawers with brass teardrop pulls on split pin shanks, beneeth a dummy drawer which houses the concealed well.  The drawer blades and case are finely trimmed with cross banded cockbeading.  On inverted cup supports joined by an elaborate ring and bow shaped stretcher.  A bureau with the wow factor where you will spend more time playing than working.
